Calico Koi

Calico Koi also known as Cali grew up around fish her whole life. Her mother owned a fish store which Cali loved to be in and watch all the colorful fish swimming in their own little environments. Cali would help her mother with the store with cleaning, feeding, and redecorating the fish tanks. At the young age of thirteen her mother noticed Cali's love for fish and let Cali keep her own fish pond in their back yard. She loved that pond and took care of the gold fish that her mother stocked the pond with. Cali kept the pond with great care. If her family couldn't find Cali they knew she would be right beside the pond reading to her fish or drawing them. 

It wasn't until Cali was eighteen that she started to lose faith in the beautiful fish. She felt like taking care of fish would be her special talent, but no cutie mark appeared. One day a pony came to the store to deliver some special fish from his home country. But as her mother was working with the foreign stallion Cali noticed his tail. It was long and whip like but at the tip there was a ball of water where a tri-colored fish swam inside. Cali was so fascinated that she didn't realize she was staring until the wise stallion locked eyes with her. Cali's mother began to apologize for her daughters actions but the old pony smiled and turned back to Cali's mother and finished their business. 

Cali retreated to the outside to back of the store where the shop had a pond stocked with fish that were to big to keep as house hold pets. She watched them for a bit but kept thinking back to the strange stallion with the fish that swam in the bubble on his tail. Before long the stallion came out back and went to her. He did not say anything he merely sat down a fish bowl and left. Cali tired to stay something to him as his back retreated into the distance. She looked at the bowl to find a fish of the same species in the bowl. A koi fish. 

The koi was her new best friend. She took the fish home and put him in the pond with the other gold fish. The Koi was two times bigger than the tiny goldfish but he was a gentle giant among the dwarfs. Cali felt her hind quarters prickle and felt like she was getting her cutie mark finally. However it was just a fly. 

It wan't much later that she didn't need a cutie mark to tell her what to do with her life. With a design in mind she went down to the tattoo parlor and got her very own "Cutie mark" ("Cutie mark" being designed).
